CONVOCATORIA A ASAMBLEA EXTRAORDINARIA DE SOCIOS DE INTRADES-APUNTES, INC.
El 27 de febrero de 2006, a las 10 de la mañana, se celebrará una asamblea extraordinaria de socios de Intrades-Apuntes, Inc. en la que se debatirá y votará la forma en que pueda continuar la asociación de traductores: como organización sin fines de lucro con personería jurídica o sin personería jurídica.  Los socios que han recibido la convocatoria formal a comienzos del 2006 y el documento de voto por poder, pueden enviar dicho documento por fax al 646 403 4381 o por corrreo a Intrades-Apuntes, Inc., Secretary, F.D.R. SPANGLISH IS DEBATED ON NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO
National Public Radio is presenting different points of view concerning Spanglish in the bilingual education system. Leticia Molinero, President of Intrades-Apuntes, Inc. and Editor of Apuntes,  was invited to participate together with Ilan Stavans and a bilingual educator.

NEWS FROM OUR SPONSORS: CONTRACT AWARD OPENS POSITIONS FOR TRANSLATORS/INTERPRETERS
On June 12, 2003, Metropolitan Interpreters & Translators, Inc., an Intrades-Apuntes Sponsor, was awarded a multimillion dollar contract by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to provide linguistic support to their operations in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Reno, Lake Tahoe and the island of Guam. Under this contract, Metropolitan will provide monitoring, translation, transcription and interception services in more than 25 languages for the next five years. This is the culmination of thirteen years of hard work providing the best translation and interpretation services to many agencies of the U.S. government and marks the beginning of a new era for this New York City translation company.  Linguists interested in applying for positions under this contract can apply online at Metropolitan’s website, www.metlang.com

TRANSLATOR SPEAKS AT NAHJ ANNUAL CONVENTION
New York, July 2003—Leticia Molinero, President of Intrades-Apuntes, Inc., Editor of its publication, Apuntes, and freelance translator, was the only translator invited to speak on a panel during the 21st Annual Convention of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, held in New York City from June 26 through 28, 2003.
       Ms. Molinero brought the translator’s perspective to an audience comprised primarily by journalists. She said that both professions share the responsibility of communicating in Spanish to a very diversified and heterogeneous Latino population. Her remarks conveyed the need to use simple but grammatically correct Spanish in an effort to maintain clear and effective communication in that language. She stated that most of those who do not speak proper Spanish can still understand it in its written form and warned against applying journalistic double standards – while people may not always speak good English, the written language generally assumes a higher cultural norm. The same criterion should apply to Spanish.
